Pledge to Be a Wildlife Hero

This Halloween, inspire your friends and family to be friends to our most vulnerable wildlife by pledging to be a Wildlife Hero.

Many of the most maligned wildlife species are critical to the ecosystems in which they live – and are critical to humans as well. We need you now more than ever to act on behalf of “creepy critters” like spiders, snakes, opossums, and bats.

To take the Wildlife Hero pledge, let us know how you plan to be a Wildlife Hero this Halloween.

Dress up as an owl, bat, or other wildlife.

Visit the National Wildlife Federation’s Wildlife Guide webpage to learn fun facts about spiders and other creepy critters.

Keep a dead tree on your property to provide critical habitat for local bats and other wildlife (as long as it does not threaten the safety of your home or property).

Leave the leaves to protect vital winter habitat and food for toads, songbirds, insects, and more.

Check with your state wildlife office to see if leaving non-painted pumpkins in your backyard is allowed. This is a great way to provide wildlife a post-Halloween treat!

Make plans to plant a native tree in your backyard next spring.
