Avoiding the Last Resort: Landfill Diversion and Why It Matters

Join us on Wednesday, November 9 at 1:00pm Eastern.

Speaker: Nick McCulloch, Director of Sustainability, Rubicon

Landfills are known for causing environmental and health issues, so they should only be used if materials are unable to be reused or recycled. Landfills release methane gas, produce leachate, impact landscapes, and can cause air pollution. Diverting waste has significant environmental benefits over landfilling. Diverting waste reduces garbage in landfills, meaning fewer greenhouse gas emissions and less contribution to soil and water pollution. Recycling or repurposing existing materials also means that there is less need to extract and produce new materials, leading to less industrial pollution.
