Defend Your Freedom Vote

Thanks to outspoken activists and strong support from communities and wildlife biologists, we were able to recover our nation’s most iconic bird, the bald eagle. But we’re only able to secure big wins for wildlife and communities if we have a healthy democracy, where every person has an equal opportunity to make their voice heard.

That’s why it is vital that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Across the country, states have passed dangerous legislation that restricts participation in our democracy, especially for the predominantly Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities that already experience the greatest harm from pollution.

Urge Congress to vote yes on the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Dear Senator,

The ability for Americans to vote–to have their voice heard and counted–is the foundation of our government. America has stood as a shining example of modern democracy across the world for decades. Now is the time to defend citizens’ right to vote–so we can all speak out for our communities, lands, waters, and climate.

I urge you to support the Freedom to Vote Act, to ensure all voters have safe, secure, and equitable access to voting. I also urge you to introduce into the Senate and swiftly pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to restore and modernize the protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, especially for communities of color who historically and continue to face the heaviest burden of voter suppression.

While the effort to be a true representative democracy spans our country’s entire history, the last few years have made it clear that challenges to voting access remain for many across the country, undermining our democracy. We need to irrevocably secure safe, equitable, and easy access to voting for all Americans.

The Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act are comprehensive bills that not only right the wrongs of voter suppression, but also protect the right to vote for every individual. I urge you to swiftly pass these bills to ensure our democracy works for everyone.
