Pledge to Leave the Leaves

It’s the easiest pledge you’ll ever take! Commit to doing less fall yard work for the sake of wildlife.  🍂

The fallen leaf layer is home to many important species including butterflies, fireflies, and salamanders. Raking up leaves into a yard waste bag removes important habitat, and the wildlife themselves often end up thrown out in the bags too!

In fact, when you put your leaves in a yard waste bag, you could be throwing away up to half of your springtime butterflies!

Instead of tossing leaves into yard waste bags, you can add them to garden beds for extra benefits to the soil, place them under native trees to provide prime habitat for wildlife, or turn them into leaf mulch. These methods will benefit wildlife and keep your yard looking tidy.

Take the pledge now to leave the leaves this year.
